Description
Women's straight-cut shirt, 'dodilkova.' The body is sewn from three panels. The sleeve is straight, one-piece, with a gusset and an inset, widened with an additional insert, gathered at the bottom and finished with a narrow hem. The body and upper sleeve are gathered near the neckline into fine folds using the 'sewing to the collar' technique. The neckline is round with a 34 cm slit in the front, finished with a narrow binding. The shirt is decorated with stylized plant-geometric patterns, embroidered in 'white on white' (shoulder area, sleeve, hem). The shoulder area is decorated with a horizontal strip of floral motif ornament, framed above and below with narrow strips with attached leaves and half-flowers ('lyshtva,' 'half-cross'). Almost the entire sleeve surface is occupied by a vertical composition on the 'branch' motif — seven stems connected by branches with double leaves ('kuryachiy brid,' 'lyshtva,' reverse side of 'retyaz'). The hem is sewn with a 'single rod' and decorated with a horizontal zigzag line with four-petal flowers at the corners ('lyshtva,' 'nabiruvannya'), framed above and below with narrow strips of openwork 'cherv'yachok.' Legend: Used in the family of Marfa Leontiyivna Shevchenko, who lives in the village of Martova, Pechenihy District, Kharkiv Region.
