Description
Rectangular valance sewn from bleached homespun hemp canvas. Decorated with strips of stylized floral ornament, embroidered with black and red zapoloch using the diagonal 'cross-stitch' technique, and a floral-geometric ornament embroidered white-on-white using the 'openwork netting' technique. The upper embroidery strip features a wavy branch with lilies and leaves, followed by a wide strip of white openwork netting with a floral ornament, highlighted by a narrow straight ribbon with black and red multicolored tassels. The bottom of the valance is adorned with narrow white scalloped lace with diamond-shaped stylized flowers in the recesses of the scallops. Provenance: Woven, embroidered, and lace crocheted by Bobonets Hanna Yukhymivna, a resident of the village of Pashchenkove, [Bohodukhiv] District.
