Description
Shirt 'to the hem.' The bodice and hem are sewn from six panels (upper part from finer, lower from coarser canvas). Straight silhouette. The sleeve is straight with a gusset and inset, sewn along the warp, decorated at the bottom with 'puffy' gathers, on a thin cuff. The inset is attached to the sleeve with 'puffy' gathers and an overcast stitch. The bodice and insets are gathered near the neckline into dense gathers using the 'sewing to the collar' technique. The neckline is oval with a central slit on the front, finished with a narrow cuff sewn with a triple overcast stitch, with two buttonhole loops at the ends for a ribbon. The insets and hem are embroidered in 'white on white' with bleached threads using the techniques of straight satin stitch, openwork, and tambour stitch. On the inset, a horizontal stripe of a pattern is composed of diamonds and half-diamonds filled with rectangles. This pattern is framed with a thin red-and-white chain stitch border. The hem is hemmed with 'prutyk,' decorated with three rows of openwork, and between the second and third rows, a stripe of a pattern composed of half-diamonds is made with the satin stitch technique. The connecting seams of the hem (10 cm high) are decorated with a hemstitch. Legend: According to the record in the inventory book TK-1, the shirt was received from the collection of the Museum of Sloboda Ukraine named after H.S. Skovoroda.
