Description

Shirt 'to the hem.' Made of bleached homemade canvas, sewn from six panels. Straight silhouette, sleeve with a gusset and inset sewn along the weft, gathered at the bottom into small folds, on a thin cuff decorated with an overcast stitch. The inset is attached to the bodice (on the back side) with a double overcast stitch, and to the sleeve with 'puffy' gathers and an overcast stitch. The bodice and insets are gathered near the neckline into folds using the 'sewing to the collar' technique. The neckline is rectangular — kareshaped, with a central slit on the front, finished with a narrow cuff and sewn with an overcast stitch. At the ends of the cuff, there are two slit loops tied with red thread. The shirt is embroidered in 'white on white' with linen threads in a geometric-floral pattern using the techniques of straight satin stitch, cutting, dovbanka, and openwork. The inset and upper part of the sleeve feature a horizontal stripe of a pattern composed of diamonds with four-petaled geometric flowers in the center and half-flowers in the recesses. This pattern is framed on both sides by straight lines with rhythmically repeated half-flowers. The sleeve field has a scattering of diamonds. The hem is hemmed with 'prutyk' and finished with a thin row of openwork, with a stripe of geometric pattern above it, made with the satin stitch technique. The pattern consists of zigzag lines ('krulyky') and half-flowers. The connecting seams on the hem (9 cm) are hemstitched with a 'worm' stitch. Legend: According to the records in the inventory book TK-1, the shirt was received from the collection of the Museum of Sloboda Ukraine named after H.S. Skovoroda.
