Description

Shirt with a straight silhouette 'to the hem.' The bodice is sewn from six panels (bodice from finer canvas, hem from coarser canvas). The sleeve is three-quarters length, sewn from two parts, narrowed at the bottom, one-piece, with a gusset, hemmed at the bottom. The bodice and upper part of the sleeve are densely gathered near the neckline using the 'sewing to the collar' technique. The neckline is round, with a central slit on the front (23 cm long), finished with a narrow hem with two slit loops at the edges for a tie. The shirt is decorated with a geometric-floral pattern, embroidered in 'white on white' with the addition of red and blue woolen thread embroidery (shoulder, sleeve) and geometric patterns in the same colors (connecting seams of the sleeve and gusset on the back side, neckline). The sleeve on the shoulder is decorated with a wide horizontal stripe of a pattern with a diamond motif with an inscribed flower, framed at the top and bottom with a narrow chain stitch with pyramids and 'three windows' pyramids (techniques: satin stitch, cross-stitch, chain stitch, cutting). The sleeve field is filled with four vertical stripes of embroidery with a 'branch' motif (zigzag lines with leaves and diamonds in the recesses; vertical slanted crosses between the lines). The embroidery on the sleeve is done with satin stitch and cross-stitch. The connecting seams of the sleeve and gusset on the back side are made with a 'worm' stitch in red and blue woolen thread in a zigzag pattern. The central slit on the front is hemmed with a 'single column,' and the neckline edge is finished with an 'obmetytsia' stitch in red and blue woolen thread. The hem is hemmed with a simple stitch without decoration. Legend: According to the records in the inventory book TK-1, the shirt was received from the collection of the Museum of Sloboda Ukraine named after H.S. Skovoroda.
