Description
Shirt 'to the hem.' Straight silhouette, sewn from six parts. The bodice is made of finer hemp canvas, the hem from coarser canvas. The sleeve is one-piece, straight, wide (with an auxiliary panel), with a gusset, gathered at the bottom, on a cuff. The bodice and sleeves are densely gathered near the neckline into small folds using the 'sewing to the collar' technique. The neckline is oval, with a central slit on the front, finished with a narrow cuff sewn with a triple overcast stitch. At the ends of the cuff, there are two slit loops for a ribbon. The shirt is embroidered with a geometric pattern in 'white on white' with bleached linen threads using the techniques of cutting, satin stitch, dovbanka, chain stitch, and cross-stitch. The upper part of the sleeve features a horizontal stripe of a pattern composed of 'keys,' half-diamonds, and geometric flowers and half-flowers. The sleeve field has a scattering of diamonds with an inscribed square. The cuff is adorned with a 'krulyka' (cross-stitch technique), embroidered with red woolen thread. The hem is hemmed with 'prutyk,' decorated with openwork, framed on both sides by a 'krulyka' (zigzag line) made with the surface stitching technique in red woolen thread. Legend: According to the records in the inventory book TK-1, the shirt was received from the Museum of Sloboda Ukraine named after H.S. Skovoroda.
