Description
Rushnyk made from homespun bleached canvas, embroidered with red and black threads. The ornament is floral and ornithomorphic with added textual embroidery. The tiered composition includes: three separate floral branches; a band of openwork with birds; two wavy branches of lush roses with large flowers, buds, and leaves, with a background pattern of eight-petal flowers and the inscriptions 'Еж пирог с крупами, держы язык за зубами, шила Мария Ч' and 'Некрасна моя работа угодить бы не забывай, чем богата те рада' between them. The rushnyk is hemmed with openwork, and lace with a toothed edge is sewn to the edges. Provenance: Used in the family of Kuzma Vasyliovych Chernychenko, a resident of the village of Yefremivka, Vovchansk District.
