Description
Rushnyk composed of four fragments of white factory-produced fabric of different sizes, sewn together. Lace inserts are sewn between the larger and smaller parts. The rushnyk is embroidered with red, white, pink, lilac, purple, blue, dark blue, green, light green, yellow, and orange threads. The ornament is stylized floral with added textual embroidery. The ends are decorated with a tiered composition: 1) a horizontal 'branch' with many flowers, buds, tendrils, and leaves of various sizes, shapes, and colors, mostly extending upward; 2) lace with a floral-geometric pattern of two grapevine bands; 3) a sprawling bouquet with multi-petal flowers in the center and branches with small flowers and leaves on the sides; 4) textual embroidery on one end: 'Father feeds until the wedding, and husband feeds,' and on the other: 'until the end, embroidered in 1957'; 5) three separate branches with flowers, buds, and leaves. The rushnyk is hemmed with 'single prutik' openwork. One edge is machine-hemmed. Hand-sewn lace with a figured finish, ornamented with a drop pattern, is attached to the narrower ends.
