Description
Rushnyk composed of two fragments of white linen canvas, sewn together. Each fragment consists of two parts of different widths, connected by lace inserts. The rushnyk is embroidered with red and black threads. The ornament is stylized floral, floral-geometric, geometric, and ornithomorphic. The ornamental bands are arranged in a tiered composition: 1) a wide embroidered band imitating lace with three teeth, into which three downward floral branches are inscribed; 2) a wavy viburnum branch with clusters and leaves; 3) hand-crocheted lace with a pattern of a wavy branch with oak leaves, supplemented on the sides with lace of a geometric pattern; 4) a wide garland of roses with buds and leaves; 5) a pair of crested birds perched on two floral branches. The rushnyk is finished with 'double prutik' openwork. Handwoven lace with a zigzag edge and an ornament of three large diamonds decorated with 'spiders' is attached to the ends. Cotton factory fabric fragments are sewn to the sides of the lace. All seams are machine-stitched.
