Description
Rushnyk made of homespun bleached hemp canvas, embroidered with red and black (faded to pale gray) threads. The ornament is stylized floral, floral-geometric, and ornithomorphic, covering the entire field of the rushnyk. The ornament consists of seven tiers: 1) a band of embroidery resembling a wavy 'grapevine' branch with clusters, flowers, and leaves; 2) a background pattern of a zigzag band with four-petal flowers at the peaks; 3) three separate wavy lily branches with a bud and leaves; 4) a background pattern similar to the second tier; 5) a wavy 'bellflower' branch with small flowers and leaves; 6) a pattern with a central 'rooster,' flanked by pairs of 'stork' birds with long beaks near a feeding trough; 7) a 'viburnum' branch with two doves perched on it. The edges are finished with openwork.
