Description
Shirt made of white hemp canvas (upper part from fine canvas, lower part from coarse canvas). Straight silhouette, 'to the hem,' with the body and hem sewn from six parts. The sleeve has an insert sewn along the warp, with a gusset, gathered with 'puff stitches,' and gathered at the bottom into a band. The body and inserts are gathered at the neckline. The neckline is square ('kare') with a slit in the center and a loop buttonhole, finished with a narrow band. A white mother-of-pearl button is sewn on the left side of the band. The inserts and sleeves are embroidered with red and black cotton thread in a floral ornament using the cross-stitch technique. The insert has a horizontal stripe of eight-petaled flowers and leaves connected by branches, framed on both sides by a thin stripe of stylized flowers. The neckline is decorated with a geometric ornament (broken line) done in the smooth stitch technique with red cotton thread. The hem is finished with a 'bar' stitch, above which is a pattern of crosses with extensions, done in the straight smooth stitch technique with blue threads. Legend: Purchased by the museum in 1959 in the village of Myrne, Krasnokutsk District, Kharkiv Oblast, from Dzyubenko Ulyta Melentiyivna.
