Description
Rushnyk made of homespun bleached hemp canvas, embroidered in the diagonal 'cross-stitch' technique with black and red threads. The stylized composition consists of four tiers: 1. rose branch framed by the text: 'When I die, bury me in a grave among...' and 'Under the cross is my grave, my love embroidered the cross,' with the text starting at one end and continuing at the other; 2. narrative composition (a grave with a cross entwined with a viburnum branch, flanked by two trees); 3. three wreaths: a large central one with a cross, flanked by two smaller ones with birds; 4. two peacocks with the initials 'U.Q.Kh.' between them. The edges are hemmed with 'single prutik.' The ends are decorated with serrated woven lace with a floral ornament.
**Legend:** Discovered during an ethnographic expedition by employees of the Kharkiv Historical Museum.
