Description

Shirt made of bleached hemp canvas. Straight silhouette, 'extended,' sewn from three panels. The neckline is square ('kare') with a slit in the center and a buttonhole for a button, finished with a narrow band. The inserts and sleeves are embroidered with red and black cotton thread in a floral ornament using the cross-stitch technique. The insert has a horizontal pattern stripe of roses (Rosa centifolia), framed on both sides by an ornament of small stylized flowers. The sleeves feature a scattered pattern of rose bouquets. The hem is decorated with a horizontal stripe of geometric ornament with diamond motifs, done in the smooth stitch technique with white linen threads. This ornament is framed on both sides by a narrow white openwork. Legend: Used in Kharkiv region, part of the collection of the Sloboda Ukraine Museum named after G.S. Skovoroda (according to the inventory book).
