Description
'Bodice' shirt (to the waistline), straight silhouette. The bodice is sewn from three panels of homespun linen canvas. The sleeve is long with a gusset and shoulder inset sewn along the weft, gathered at the bottom into small pleats and finished with a medium-width cuff with a slit loop. The round neckline has a slit at the center front, finished with a wide placket. The shirt is decorated with stylized floral embroidery in black and red threads. The shoulder inset features a composition of three individual flowers with leaves and branches and a corner-shaped ornamental band of a branch with serrated leaves, framed above and below by stylized leaflets. The shoulder area is decorated with a garland of large and small flowers with leaves, framed above and below by 'chain' strips. The sleeve surface has a scattering of individual flowers with branches and leaves, and the cuff has stylized four-petal flowers underlined by a zigzag line. The placket is covered with a floral ornament of flowers with branches and leaves, underlined at the bottom by two horizontal serrated lines embroidered on an additional piece of canvas. The neckline is bound with a braid—a red chain on a black background. Two strips of the same braid are sewn along the bodice on the right and left of the placket. At a later time, the shirt was tailored with side and longitudinal darts at the front.
**Legend:** The shirt belonged to Valentyna Yanivna Ovod, who lived in Kharkiv.
