Description
Straight-silhouette 'bodice' shirt. The bodice is sewn from two panels. The sleeve is fully cut with a small gusset, densely gathered at the bottom, and finished with a narrow cuff with serrated edges. The bodice and upper sleeve edge are gathered near the neckline using the 'sewing to collar' technique. The round neckline has a 34 cm slit at the center front and a narrow collar with a slit loop on the right and a small white button on the left, adorned with small serrations along the upper edge. The slit is finished with a 4.7 cm wide placket. The shirt is decorated with stylized floral ornaments embroidered with black and red threads using 'cross-stitch' (collar, shoulder inset, sleeve, cuff, placket). The sleeve features two horizontal bands of dense embroidery with cross and lily motifs, framed above and below by strips of S-shaped 'key' symbols arranged horizontally. The wide bands are separated by nine small rose branches with two leaves. Almost the entire sleeve surface is embroidered with horizontal rows of single rose branches and viburnum branches with leaves and tassels. The cuff and collar are decorated with embroidered 'keys.' The placket is covered with a stylized garland of flowers with leaves, framed by narrow red strips.
**Legend:** The shirt belonged to the mother of Pavlo Arseniiovych Hrabovsky, a prominent Ukrainian poet, publicist, and revolutionary democrat, and was sent by mail by P.A. Hrabovsky's son.
