Description

Straight-silhouette 'to pidtochka' shirt. The bodice is sewn from six panels. The sleeve is straight with a gusset and shoulder inset sewn along the grain, densely gathered at the bottom and finished with a binding, decorated at the top with 6 cm 'puffy' gathers. The bodice and shoulder insets are gathered near the neckline using the 'sewing to collar' technique. The round neckline has a 25 cm slit at the center front, bound with a narrow edge with two slit loops at the edges. The shirt is decorated with stylized white-on-white floral-geometric ornaments (shoulder inset, sleeve, hem). The middle part of the shoulder inset is adorned with three solar symbols in the form of eight-petal flowers arranged horizontally in a line ('lyshtva'). The shoulder inset and upper sleeve edge are decorated with a horizontal ornament band of double diamond-shaped leaflets and triangles, framed above and below by a strip of triangles and small double leaflets ('lyshtva'). The sleeve surface features a scattering of eight-petal solar symbols, like those on the shoulder inset, and stylized four-petal cross-shaped flowers ('lyshtva,' 'cutwork'). The hem is finished with a narrow openwork of double columns and holes, decorated with a band of openwork with half-diamonds and S-shaped 'key' symbols arranged horizontally ('openwork with inlay'). The bodice panels are joined at the hem with a decorative seam ('gorodky' lace seam). **Legend:** The shirt belonged to the Museum of Sloboda Ukraine named after H.S. Skovoroda.
