Description
Rushnyk repurposed into a curtain, made from two identical canvas strips sewn vertically with an openwork seam. Each strip is decorated with identical embroidery featuring floral and geometric ornaments in red and black threads. Closer to the lower edge of the canvas is a wide ornamental band: a garland of roses with leaves and buds, framed above and below by wavy branches with small flowers in the recesses. The rest of the fabric features geometric shapes arranged in a checkerboard pattern: red star-shaped rosettes and black rectangles connected at the corners. The upper edge of the curtain is hemmed without decorative stitches, while the lower edge is hemmed with 'single prutik' and adorned with white woven lace with a geometric ornament, finished with scallops. Provenance: The curtain belonged to Honcharova Kylyna Fedorivna, a resident of Staryi Saltiv. It was sewn from a rushnyk made in 1875 by Honcharova K.F.'s mother as part of her dowry. The lace was woven by Honcharova K.F. at the age of 6-7 in 1909-1910.
