Description
Straight-cut shirt, 'to the hem.' The body of the shirt is sewn from six panels (body from finer canvas, hem from coarser canvas). The sleeve is straight, one-piece, with a gusset, gathered at the bottom and finished with a narrow hem. The body and upper sleeve are densely pleated near the neckline using the 'sewing to the collar' technique. The neckline is round, with a 31 cm slit in the center front, bound with a narrow binding with two buttonhole loops at the edges, with a small button sewn on the left side of the binding. The slit is fixed at the bottom with a fastener. The shirt is decorated with stylized plant patterns, embroidered in 'white on white' (shoulder area, sleeve, hem) and geometric patterns, embroidered with red zappolotch (hem) and black and red zappolotch (shoulder area). The shoulder area of the sleeve is decorated with a horizontal strip of embroidery in the form of a garland with leaves and berries, framed above and below with thin lines with double leaves and berries ('lyshtva,' 'half-cross,' 'obmetytsya'). The upper half of the sleeve is filled with a scattering of small bouquets with five berries and leaves ('lyshtva,' 'obmetytsya'). The decoration of the shoulder area and sleeve is separated by a black-and-red zigzag line ('cherv'yachok'). The hem is folded with a 'single column' and decorated with a horizontal strip of embroidery with diagonal leaves ('lyshtva'). The connecting seams of the panels at the hem are decorated with vertical zigzag lines in red ('cherv'yachok'). Legend: Woven, embroidered, and sewn by Hanna Ivanivna Rudenko, who lived at the address: Kharkiv Region, Chuhuiv District, village of Bazaliyivka.
